Search Doña Ana County Court Records
New Mexico Case Lookup is the starting point for most Doña Ana County court records because it covers public electronic records from appellate, District, Magistrate, Metropolitan, and Municipal Courts. The Third Judicial District Court links to the same portal for current electronic court records. The search is free and does not require registration, but the disclaimer limits use to viewing individual records. It also states that attempts to download multiple records per transaction are prohibited.
Case Lookup is strongest when the searcher knows the court level. District Court records for Doña Ana County use District Court location 307 - Las Cruces. Magistrate Court locations include Las Cruces, Anthony, and Hatch. Municipal choices include Hatch, Las Cruces, Mesilla, and Sunland Park, while Anthony Municipal Court appears in the statewide municipal directory and should be contacted directly if a city citation does not appear in the portal.

The official New Mexico public access page explains that Case Lookup does not provide documents and does not display personal identifying information such as Social Security numbers or address information. It also notes limits for municipal records, juvenile criminal cases, and Family Violence Protection Act order-of-protection cases.

That distinction matters in Doña Ana County because a docket hit may identify the court file, but the actual pleading, order, or certified copy still comes from the clerk or registered access channel.

Types of Doña Ana County Court Records
Doña Ana County court records follow the local court structure. The Third Judicial District Court handles felony criminal cases, civil cases over $10,000, divorce, child support, kinship guardianship, orders of protection, juvenile matters, mental health matters, lower-court appeals, contested probate, and other general-jurisdiction matters. Magistrate Courts in Las Cruces, Anthony, and Hatch handle traffic citations, misdemeanors, felony preliminary hearings, landlord-tenant cases, and civil claims up to $10,000.
Municipal Courts in Anthony, Hatch, Las Cruces, Mesilla, and Sunland Park handle city ordinance cases, petty misdemeanors, DWI/DUI, and city traffic violations. The Doña Ana County Probate Court handles informal and uncontested estates. The County Clerk is different from the District Court Clerk. The County Clerk keeps recorded public documents such as deeds, marriage licenses, liens, judgments, recorded probate notices, and business registrations.

What Doña Ana County Court Records Show
A court record is not just a final result. In Doña Ana County, the electronic case entry can show the path of a case from filing through hearings, orders, disposition, and financial activity. A full file may also include pleadings, notices, exhibits, or court orders that are not downloadable from Case Lookup. When a certified copy is needed for a legal filing, employment credential, name change, appeal, or agency request, the court clerk or office of record must supply it.

Doña Ana Court Records Access
New Mexico public access starts with the Inspection of Public Records Act, NMSA 1978 Section 14-2-1 et seq., which presumes access to public records unless a specific rule or exception applies. Court case access is also shaped by Rule 1-079 NMRA for District Court records and by the Supreme Court online case access policy.
For Doña Ana County court records, first identify the court. District Court case records are maintained by the Third Judicial District Court Clerk. Magistrate and Municipal Courts keep many traffic, misdemeanor, and preliminary criminal records. The County Clerk portal is for recorded documents, not for full court case files. When a document is not online, the official route is in-person inspection at the clerk's office where the case was filed, a mail request, or the New Mexico Courts IPRA request form.

Restricted Doña Ana County Court Records
Some Doña Ana County court records are public in part, restricted in part, or not shown online at all. Juvenile criminal cases no longer display in Case Lookup as of July 1, 2007, and NMSA 1978 Section 32A-2-32 treats many juvenile records as confidential. Family Violence Protection Act order-of-protection cases no longer display in Case Lookup as of July 1, 2008.
Rule 1-079 says most District Court records are public, but adoption files, certain mental-health records, sealed records, and protected identifiers may be restricted. Sealing is not automatic just because parties want privacy. The court must enter a written order or the record must fall under an automatic sealing rule. Expungement is different. New Mexico criminal expungement can remove qualifying arrest or conviction records from public access, but federal and tribal records are not erased through a New Mexico state order.
Doña Ana County Court Records Requests
The Third Judicial District public-records page states that court case records may be inspected in person at the Clerk's Office at the courthouse where the case was filed. Electronic requests go through the New Mexico Courts IPRA form, and mailed requests go to the Third Judicial District Court records custodian. A request should include the requester's name, address, telephone number, and a reasonably particular description of the records sought. Physical copies cost $0.35 per page, with mailing and storage-device charges when applicable.
